Audit presence by running representative buyer prompts in Copilot directly, and track citation signals where a web grounding footprint exists.
Measurement boundary
External measurement is structurally limited. Work-mode answers inside M365 leave no public results page and no server-side log for the cited brand, and no click unless the user opens a reference. Only web-grounded answers leave a Bing-visible footprint; answers drawn purely from enterprise Graph data are invisible from outside, and no rank-tracker equivalent exists for this surface.

Common mistakes
- Treating Copilot as just Bing SEO: Bing indexing is necessary but not sufficient — Copilot adds a retrieval/synthesis layer, and admins can disable web grounding entirely.
- Assuming all Copilot answers are observable: only web-grounded ones leave a trackable footprint; Graph-grounded answers are invisible to the cited vendor.
- Conflating enterprise Microsoft 365 Copilot with consumer Copilot in Bing/Windows — different grounding depth, controls and decision context.
